Firefox 3 could ship with crippling Flash bug
Update: This has now been resolved by rolling back a prior bug fix. Special recognition to the Flash community for elevating awareness of this bug! – thanks to “Dimension” for bringing this to my attention.
After being informed via Mike Chambers blog about a bug currently found in Firefox 3 (in beta) regarding key up events. I noticed the community (developers mostly) say it MUST be fixed before Firefox 3 final goes “gold”.
Problem is, it would seem that the Mozilla team doesn’t see it as a big issue that warrants the hold of the release. I have to admit this is kind of pathetic. Flash Player is installed on over 99{9eb845e9932a4c0558a0305a78bf1c2d5042d8a06323e6cdeacdb9c8597fbf65} of users machines and is used for games, videos and applications across various sites/technologies.
Having these applications, games and video players just stop working is a big problem, that would result in a bad light on Firefox 3. Overall I think the upcoming release is solid, but this “minor” bug could seriously change that.
