Custom iPhone Part 2

Custom iPhone Part 2

Custom iPhoneI started off customizing my iPhone with iFantastic which was pretty cool, but really didn’t allow me to do all that much. Even with version 3 which was just released it still only allows tweaking when I really wanted to re-theme it, install apps and disable some standard features (autocomplete for one).

Enter AppTap from nullriver which allows me to install a “base application” offering access to a repository filled with hundreds of cool apps. I now have Instant Messenger, BlackJack and Terminal to name a few.

I should note anything you install or edit can seriously hurt your iPhone so do any/all modifications at your own risk. I am not responsible if you end up with a 500 brick.. however I should note I have performed many hacks and updates with no issues.

Now it is a race till 1.0.3 (1.1.1) of the phone software is released since I am guessing it will break this cool functionality.. however I will not be updating any time soon until I know it works.

Update: Version 1.1.1 is now available and it WILL NOT work with AppTap, so it is best to sit back and enjoy 1.0.2 for the time being and soon enough you will have a new AppTap to install.

Hey Matt, have you dared upgrade to the 1.1.1 firmware? Gizmodo has a big thread that basically concludes it’s not a good idea if you like your third party apps (which I know you do!)

    Chuck.
